山形YAMAGATA
Zao Rimed Trees Festival
The Zao Juhyo Festival is held to coincide with the peak season for viewing Zao’s juhyo snow monsters (frost-covered trees), one of Yamagata’s most internationally-famous attractions. There will be various events, including “skiing down the 10-km long Juhyogen Course,” the “1,000-person ski procession with LED lights,” winter fireworks (launched for about 5 minutes), and the “winter luck tour” to visit power spots on the slopes. Also, don’t miss out on “Daylight Juhyo Viewing” to enjoy the winter sight of the snow monsters, and the “Illuminated Juhyo—nature’s artworks made from ice and snow that are unique in the world!” Held from late December to late February.
