Seri-Nabe

This is a local dish of the Miyagi Prefecture. Seri is a perennial of the family Apiaceae and is often eaten in Haru no Nanakusa (seven herbs of spring) and Nanakusagayu (seven herbs porridge). In Natori City, seri-nabe is becoming a famous dish. In this stew, the seri plant is entirely eaten, including the root. The seri cultivated in Natori have particularly thick stems and roots. Each part (leaves, stem, and root) also offers different tastes and textures. This seri stew, which includes the entire seri plant, from the root to the leaves, chicken meat, duck meat, and other ingredients, is both healthy and delicious.
