秋田AKITA
Dainichido Bugaku
This is the oldest ritual dance and music performance in Akita, with a history of roughly 1,300 years. Every January 2, "noshu" dancers from four communities assemble at Ohirumemuchi Shrine outside the worship hall and sactuary to perform seven dances, including the Godaison-mai and the Gongen-mai dances. Performers wear special masks and wield large katana in an impressive performance.
